Integrated learning
Livng Seawalls can be used by high schools as an outdoor classroom, where students can learn about the impacts of urbanisation along our coastlines, and ways that we can ecologcially enhance the built environments to support both humans and nature. Student can conduct biodiversity surveys of Living Seawalls and compare the community of marine species against areas of non-modified structures or natural shorelines.
Sydney Secondary College Balmain has taken this a step further and installed a Living Seawall on their school’s property as part of their Balmain Foreshore Project.
With the support of our reseachers, successive years of students will monitor the impact of the Living Seawalls habitat panels on local biodiversity over time.
